Yu Sam Sung

Woodside, NY
Residency: February – March 2014

Project Description
For two months, I had a great time to concentrate on work. I could not only develop my previous works but also try new body of work. The first one, “Arrows”, is based on my early drawing. I used wire for it. I tried to make chaotic arrows so it could present unsure-ness our lives.

When we think of an arrow, it always suggests one direction and represents a correct one. However, my arrows basically have two points, and complicate the shape of the body. So we could not assume where these arrows are going to go or which direction they are pointing.

Nike is the God of Victory. I tried to express an object that has a strong impression out of a weak material. I chose the fragile foam, so contrary to the powerful image of the sculptures to maximize response to the work.
