Robert Loring
Liverpool, NY
Residency: June-July 2013
Robert Loring received his BFA in Art Education from Syracuse University made possible by a “mopping floor grant.” His mother, Marcia Loring, took a position as a custodian allowing her two children to study at a top university. After a heated debate on the artwork he was making while pursuing his MFA at Tulane University in New Orleans, he unfortunately did not pass a candidacy review to receive his MFA. So he moved back to Syracuse, took a job as a car salesman and began working on finishing his Master’s at SUNY Oswego. That same year he was selected for Sculpture Magazine’s Outstanding Student Achievement Award. In 2010 he was also selected to study under Heinz Aeschlimann’s in his Young Artist Residency Program in St. Urban, Switzerland. Loring currently lives and works in Syracuse, NY. He teaches art at a K-5 Elementary School. Loring has exhibited work at Allegheny College (PA), Murray State (NJ), Salt lake City Art Center (UT), Middlesex College (NJ), St. Urban Switzerland, The Schweinfurth Art Center (NY) and Grounds for Sculpture (NJ).
