Mia Feuer

Mia Feuer was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. She received her BFA from the University of Manitoba in 2004 and her MFA in 2009, from the Department of Sculpture and Extended Media at Virginia Commonwealth University. Mia has received numerous travel/research, production and creation grants from the Manitoba Arts Council, the Winnipeg Arts Council, The Canada Council for the Arts, The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba and The Lila Acheson Readers Digest Foundation. In 2007, supported by The Winnipeg Arts Council, she traveled to Palestine to facilitate sculptural workshops in the West Bank with Palestinian children. In 2009, she received a full two-month fellowship at Vermont Studio Center and a two-month fellowship at Seven Below Arts Initiative in Burlington, VT. In 2010, Mia received a fellowship from the Mid Atlantic Foundation for the Arts, Baltimore, MD, a fellowship with the Millay Colony, Austerlitz, NY and a fellowship at The Macdowell Colony, Peterborough, NH. In 2011 Mia was an artist in residence at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, NB and was a selected artist for the Lower East side Artist Alliance Rotating Studio Program in New York, NY. She was selected as The District of Columbia Commission for the Arts and Humanities 2011 Artist Fellow and was a finalist in the Washington DC 2011 Mayor’s Art Awards. Mia also won first place at the 2011 Trawick Awards. She has recently conducted sculptural research in Egypt during the 2011 Revolution and traveled to Fort McMurray Alberta in Northern Canada to explore the toxic Tar Sands and the oil refineries at Suncor Energy. Solo Exhibitions include Outworks Gallery, Winnipeg, Canada FLUXspace, Philadelphia, PA, Transformer Gallery, Washington DC, Arlington Arts Center, Arlington, VA, The Firehouse Gallery, Burlington, VT and The Contemporary Arts Center of Atlanta, Atlanta, GA, Conner Contemporary, Washington, DC and the Goodyear Gallery in Carslile, PA. Future Solo Exhibitions include The Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, RAW: Gallery of Architecture and Design, Winnipeg, Manitoba and a special project with the Phillips Collection, Washington, DC in 2014. Mia currently lives and works in Washington, DC where she makes art, teaches sculpture at George Mason University.
